In 1955 my grandfather, Ben Benjamin, then the general manager for I. Miller shoes embarked on a European trip to help improve the production value of the I. Miller shoes being manufactured in Europe. In the letter below, written while they were in Italy, Salvatore Ferragmo’s sister, Rosina Ferragamo, is mentioned as worth seeing.

Does anyone remember when Mayor Giuliani wanted to get rid of the food vendors? I can’t imagine the city without the smell of roasting chestnuts.

Holidays on Facebook give us all a chance to share family photos and honor those that came before. This one posted on Veteran’s Day of college friend Malcolm B. Smith’s grandparents, Katie Elizabeth and John Calvin Smith caught my eye.
Daddy was a good looking man and a great catch. He had a great laugh and beautiful sense of humor. Below, Daddy before a grenade robbed him of his eyesight and happiness. He married once more, fathered another daughter. My sister Diane and I both gave him grandchildren, but he only lived to know my son. However from his bloodline, he now has grands and great grands. RIP daddy. Jerlean Noble

Repost from last year.
Here’s a salute to all the Veterans today and my cool dad who covered 4 presidential conferences as a correspondent for Stars and Stripes during WWII – Casablanca, Cairo, Tehran, Yalta, and Bitter Lakes. The photo below was taken sometime in the 1980’s. See more of his photos and read about him from an earlier post here.
