In 1955 my grandfather, Ben Benjamin, then the general manager for I. Miller shoes embarked on a European trip to help improve the production value of the I. Miller shoes being manufactured in Europe. In the letter below, written while they were in Italy, Salvatore Ferragmo’s sister, Rosina Ferragamo, is mentioned as worth seeing.

Does anyone remember when Mayor Giuliani wanted to get rid of the food vendors? I can’t imagine the city without the smell of roasting chestnuts.
Remembering 911.

My gorgeous sister in her other life dancing outside of the WTC. My son came home and told us the teachers shared their 911 stories today, so we shared ours. I told him about how I was working on a tv show downtown during the day, but had just switched to nights and was sleeping when the planes crashed into the towers. How it was a beautiful day. The mishegas that followed. Who remembers the duct tape we were suppose to buy? The Anthrax scare at NBC and the men in full hazmat suits who came in to investigate while the editors and producers had to continue to work unprotected. The burning smell that lasted for weeks maybe months? I can’t remember now, but can’t forget that smell. The pasted photos of the missing persons and how everything is just different now…
